Jennifer Thompson Miller – Brioche Stitch Class

We are very fortunate to have been able to schedule a last minute class with Jennifer Thompson Miller, who will be in town to speak at the Dallas Handknitter’s Guild on Tuesday November 5th.

Jennifer will be AT KNITTING FAIRY to teach Brioche Knitting on Saturday, November 2 from 1-3:30pm.  She is also going to offer a drop in knitting help class on Sunday, November 3 from 1-4pm.  Space is limited, be sure to call the shop to save your seat!

Jennifer is also bringing us a selection of her lovely hand-dyed yarns to shop.  We will have her yarns available on Saturday and Sunday – all day! You do not have to attend classes to shop 🙂

Brioche Stitch Class
Saturday, Nov 2, 1-3.30 pm

Brioche stitch is a beautiful, ancient knitting stitch with loads of variation. It is a technique that slips stitches every other row, creating a very soft, stretchy, thick, fluffy fabric. Classic brioche stitch is reversible, with a lovely right side and wrong side. It can be done in 1 color, 2 colors, or 3 or more colors.

Skills required:
knit & purl, yarn over, knitting in the round

Participants will learn one & two  color brioche stitch and begin a brioche stitch scarf.

Please bring:
Worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors (handpaints or variegated yarn is fine)
straight needles, or 8″ double point needles, size 6
16″ or 24″ circular needle, size 6

Class will cover:
basic brioche stitch, very useful & beautiful for vertical striping – also useful for using up stash/yarn ends
brioche stitch back & forth rows as well as in the round
brioche increase/decrease
learn differences/characteristics of brioche & how to create a unique knitting fabric
examples of application of brioche stitch in hats, scarves, sweaters, etc.
