Knitting Fairy Classes, Look what the Stork Brought!

  • Posted on April 22, 2011 at 12:01 am

I am uploading these classes one at a time, please scroll down for earlier announced classes.

Look What the Stork Brought:

A series of classes for that special someone.

Booties: Guaranteed to Stay-on Booties that can be made to fit any baby’s foot from the tiniest preemie to a busy toddler.  You select the size you want to make and the yarn weight (fingering, dk or sport) and double point needles to give you a firm gauge. (for preemies, use fingering and a 0-1 needle.)  Homework: Make the sole of the first bootie, which is also your gauge swatch.  cast on 10 sts with selected yarn and needles.  Knit 40 rows (20 ridges) in garter stitch.  Measure.  (Newborn feet are about 3″ long, 12 months — about 5″.)  When you have the size bootie sole you want, you’re ready for class!

Saturday, April 23rd 10am-12pm.  $15/person + materials.

Hat: This cute little bucket hat is great for boys or girls who are going to be out in the sun. C olor of yarn and any embellishment you might choose decide the “sex” of the hat.  Requirements: Cotton yarn, sport weight and circular needles (16″ long and dpn) to give you  a gauge of 5.5 sts/inch.

Saturday, April 30 and May 7th.  10am-12pn  $30/person

Sweater: Match this to the Booties from Class #1 and you have a perfect gift for a newborn.  Kimono Jacket is boxy and made using the “Up and Over” method.  Requirement: Worsted Weight Yarn and needles to give you a gauge of 5 sts = 1 inch in garter stitch.  (You may use cotton, wool or blend yarns)

Saturday May 14th and 28th.  10am-12pn  $30/person

Tweed Baby Blanket: A square garter-stitch blanket with a feather and fan edging.  Select from 2 sizes, 41″X41″ or 45″ X 45″.  The blanket is quick-knit, the edging is picked up and knit on.  Requirements: Worsted weight yarn.  Small — 700 yds MC, 280 yds CC.  Large — 840 yds MC, 140 yds CC1, 280 CC2.  Needles to give you a 4.5 sts = 1″ gauge in garter stithc.  32″ circular needles and dpns one size larger.  (#9 and 10 recommended) (Note 1: This makes a great shawl when folded over triangle-style; 2) I made mine using DK yarn and the recommended needles for a looser shawl.)

Saturday June 11 and 25th  10am-12pm  $30/person

Instructor: Betty Kay Seibt

Class size is limited to 6, sign up now by calling the studio at (214)412-2889 or emailing alissa@knittingfairy.com.  Payment is required upon registration and will be refunded to you in full if you must cancel more than 7 days before class dates.  With less than 7 days before you class refunds will only be given if we can fill your spot.  There are no make-up classes.  If you must miss a class there is no discounted rate.  We will, however, be happy to help you finish your project during regular shop hours.

Easter Week

  • Posted on April 18, 2011 at 12:01 am

I hope you have some fun stuff planned for Easter Sunday.  Knitting Fairy will be closed Easter Sunday but I will stitch and think of you all while I have some fun with the family.

We will be here, waiting to help you with your knitting, crochet and spinning needs Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week following our normal business hours.  We will have Drop-in Knitting class this Thursday night from 7-9pm.  The cost is just $10/person and all are welcome.  Want to learn HOW to knit? This class is perfect for you.  No pressure, learn at your own pace.  Advanced knitters with technical questions are welcome too, just bring your knitting and get back on track.

Saturday we have two classes this week.

Look What The Stork Brought is an ongoing series of classes taught by Betty Kay.  The project that starts this week is Booties.

Guarenteed To Stay On Booties:

Can be made to fit any baby’s foot from the tiniest baby to a busy toddler.  You select the size you want to make and yarn weight (fingering, sport or DK) and double pointed needles to give you a firm gauge.  (for Preemies use fingering and 0-1 dpn.) Homework:  Make the sole of the first bootie, which is also your gauge swatch. Cast on 10 stitches with selected yarn and needles.  Knit 40 rows (20 ridges) in garter stitch. Measure.  (Newborn’s feet are about 3″, 12 months about 5″) When you have the size bootie sole you want you are ready for class!

Class is Saturday, April 23rd from 10am – 12pm.  The cost is $15.  Please call or email to reserve your spot.  (214)412-2889 or alissa@knittingfairy.com.  Go ahead and leave a message on the phone, we will call you back!

Also this Saturday Alissa will be teaching Bind off Options from 1-3pm.  Tired of the same old bind off? Wish you knew something that would work better, be more flexible or hold its shape? This class is for you!  In this one, two hour, class we will be learning 12 different bind offs.  Your knitting will never be the same again!  Cost of the class is $15/person, no homework required but you will need to bring needles and yarn to class or purchase on the day of class.  Again, call (214)412-2889 or email alissa@knittingfairy.com to reserve your spot.
